IB and IGCSE Math

Who it's for: IB Diploma students in Year 5 and 6 taking Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) or Applications and Interpretation (AI), at Standard or Higher Level, and students taking Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics or Additional Mathematics.

Results: IB Maths AA HL grade 7s, with final marks of 78, 79 and 88 in November 2023, 86 in November 2024 and 83 in November 2025. The result slips are on our Results & Reviews page.

The new IB Maths course: the IB has revised both AA and AI. Students starting Year 5 in August 2027 take the new courses, first examined in May 2029. Students examined up to November 2028 stay on the current courses. We teach whichever course a student is on.

What we cover: the full IB and Cambridge syllabuses: algebra, functions, trigonometry, vectors, statistics and probability, and calculus. For IB we build understanding rather than memorised steps, because HL Paper 3 and the unfamiliar long questions reward reasoning. The Mathematical Exploration (the IA), worth 20% of the final grade, rewards the same thinking. All notes and worksheets are written in-house.

Where marks are really lost: IB mark schemes reward method and exact working. We drill these until they stop:

  • skipping working on Paper 1, so a slip costs every method mark

  • rounding too early, so the final answer is off by one in the last digit

  • leaving the calculator in degrees on a radians question

  • finding a stationary point and not justifying whether it is a maximum or minimum

How lessons work: each student works on their own questions while the teacher goes round, one student at a time. During term we follow each student's school pace. Before mocks and the final exams we move to timed past papers, with and without the calculator.

In the holidays: we teach ahead on our own syllabus, so students start the next term already familiar with the topics.

Seeing progress: every student has a private Google Drive folder with all their marked work.

Getting started: new students start with a 4-lesson introductory package at the centre. WhatsApp us to find out more.
